  We have not found either Robert Lee or his wife Bertha in the 1900 US census, however, we find their daughter Mildred H. Lee living as the 'adopted daughter' of a "Snider" family in Shelton, Mason County Washington. Said family consists of:
  - Benjamin Snider, Head, born in Canada Apr. 1845
  -Mary Snider, Wife, born in Wisconsin June 1850
  Mollie Snider, daughter, born in Wisconsin  Aug 1873
  Delia V. Welch, Step daughter , born in Wisconsin June 1865
  Mildred H. Lee, Adopted daughter, born in Canada Aug 1898
  Allie B. McKenzie, Nephew, born in Washington July 1886.
  
  Curiously, a Miss Molly Snider was a signatory at the birth registration of Mildred H. Lee. Mildred's parents are Robert Lee, Engineer and Bertha Lee (nee Robertson)
  
  Then we find a Robert Lee, aged 45 in the 1910 census of Mason County, Washington State, working as a logger, with his usual occupation given as engineer.. He is shown as being a widower, born in Canada, with his father's place of birth as Canada and his mother's place of birth Ireland. He emigrated to the United States in 1884, the same year his mother Sarah Ritchie died & the family reportedly "scattered".
  Given that Robert Lee was also married twice, and died in Shelton, Washington (which is in Mason County) according to an entry in the Lee family bible,  we are certain that this is the same person, despite the 3 year discrepancy in the age between the census record and his baptism record.

  We have not found Robert Lee or Mollie Snider (Lee) in the 1920 US Census.
  
  We next find Robert Lee aged 65 (born in Canada) married to Mollie Lee aged 56 born in Wisconsin in the 1930 Census of Shelton, Mason, Washington. Their ages at marriage are given as 55 and 46.
  
  So it is reasonable to draw the conclusion that the following sequence of events took place:
  1897 - Robert Lee marries Bertha Robertson
  1898 - a daughter Mildred Hazel Lee is born.
  Bef. 1900 - Bertha dies and the daughter is adopted by the Snider family who were apparently close to Robert, Mollie Snider having been present at his daughter's birth.
  Abt 1920 - Robert remarries Mollie Snider.
  
  
  The Lee Family Bible shows Robert W. Lee as having died in Shelton Washington on Dec 4th, but does not give a year.
