The 1901 census shows Eliza Burton, a widow, living with her widowed mother J. Ann Lee (nee Robinson).
The Renfrew Mercury of Dec 8, 1899 reports that Eliza had sucessfuly sued the executors of her husbands estate for $150 and interest relating to an amount her late husband had borrowed from a legacy from Hugh Ritchie to Eliza to repay another loan. Eliza contended that this amount should be repaid to her from the estate in additin to the monies she actually inherited. The court found in Eliza's favour, but the executors of the Estate appealed. The Renfrew Mercury of October 12, 1900 reports that Eliza won the appeal, too.
