Eliza lived in Ross Township, Renfrew County as a young girl, then the family moved to Mounteagle Valley, Hastings County.
What has been passed down is how hard Eliza and Alex worked. If there was a spare moment Eliza spent it knitting, making soap or teaching the children how. A daughter Jane Ann told her daughter Amelia Hinze how she hated those days when Mother would take her knitting and oversee the girls making soap.
Eliza and Alex lived all their lives around Mounteagle Valley. In their later years they lived with Frank and Marjory Card. They are buried at Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Mounteagle.
