Notes

  • [Good Robinson Ritchie Lee et al.FTW]

    Died at Penticton General Hospital.
Informant on death certificate is  Helen Leahy, a sister-in-law.

Murray was an above average student, as evidenced by the following report in the September 2, 1927 edition of the Renfrew Mercury:
"Murray Lee, a Cobden youth in attendance at Renfrew collegiate institute, won the Forbes-McHardy scholarship in biology at Queen's University this year. The scholarship has a value of $125 of which $25 is in cash and $100 in tuition. When Miss Ruth Walker and Miss Ethel Guthrie won scholarships in 1912 they started here what has since been an unbroken list, each year one or more scholarships being obtained by R.C.I. pupils."

Murray apparently did not take advantage of this scholarship as a brief personal notice in the Renfrew Mercury 9 months later dated June 28, 1928 says "Mr. Murray Lee of Ottawa visited for a few days with Cobden friends last week". Another article dated May 4, 1929 in the Cobden News section of the same newspaper says "Mr. Murray Lee of Ottawa spent Easter with his friend Mr. Leonard Huckabone".

We also have in our possession some early photos of Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec dated "March 1929" in Murray's handwriting, so it seems he decided to move  to the north-western Quebec gold fields sometime in early 1929.

Murray worked for a time for F. W. Huggins Ltd.  in the business of assaying ore samples and later opened his own Assay Office with one Mel Shaw in Rouyn which he successfully operated until the mid 1960's, when he retired.

Murray and his wife Hazel, retired in Penticton BC where they lived at 471 Winnipeg. St. Sadly, they did not live long after their retirement. Hazel was diagnosed with cancer in 1968 and died a year later. Murray stayed in Penticton after her death and died in 1975. They had no children.
