Notes

  • [Good Robinson Ritchie Lee et al.FTW]

Although we have shown Eliza Ritchie as a natural child of James Ritchie & Mary McCambridge, Eliza does not appear as a child of James & Mary on the 1851 census of Ross Township, when she would have been 10 years old. The only individual of a similar name & age in the 1851 census is a Mary (Ritcu?/Ritchy?) aged 10 living with the Family of one Alex Thompson.
In the 1861 census, Eliza Ritchie is shown as living with James & Mary's son, Robert Ritchie.
In the 1871 census Eliza is living with James Ritchie & Mary McCambridge & the other children have all left home.
In the 1881 census, she is living alone with James, as Mary had died in 1878.
In the 1891 & 1901 censuses Eliza Ritchie is living alone with a "niece", Sarah Lee who was one of the daughters of Robert Lee & Sarah Ritchie (Sarah Ritchie being a natural daughter of James Ritchie & Mary McCambridge).
Her date of death on her Tombstone in Beachburg Union Cemetery,( on which her brother Robert's death is also inscribed)  reads Sept 23 1909.
A brief article in the Renfrew Mercury of October 8 1908 reads "Miss Eliza Ritchie, an old resident of Forester's Falls, who has been residing for some time in Calgary, died a few days ago. Her remains arrived here on Sunday last and were buried in Beachburg on Monday."
The Sarah Lee referred to above married one Alec Hamilton and died in Medicine Hat, Alberta, so we suspect that Eliza moved out west with her niece Sarah sometime after 1901.
    Eliza apparently never married.
