The 1861 Census shows Hugh Ritchie, aged 25 married to Jane Ritchie aged 20 (marriage date 1857) and they have two daughters, Eliza aged 3 and Margaret aged 2. Margaret does not appear in any other census, and we assume she died in childhood.

In the 1871 census we find Hugh, aged 38, married to Ann Jane and they have one daughter, Eliza, aged 13 and 3 sons, James 9, William 7, and John 5.

By the time the 1881 census rolls around, Hugh has died and the Widow Ann Jane "Richie" (sic) is living with her 4 sons James 19, William 17, John 14, and Robert 9. James, William & John give their occupation as farmers, so they have taken over running the family farm after their father's death. There are also 4 daughters still living at home, Fanney 13 (not listed in the 1871 census) Mary 10, Annie 7 and Alice 4. Eliza has moved out and married Thomas Burton.

We then find "Ann Jane Lee" a widow, aged 40 in the 1891 census of Ross Twp. She is listed as head of a household consisting of:
John Richie, son, aged 22
Mary Richie, dau. aged 19
Alice Richie, dau. aged 13.
Another daughter, Anne Richie, aged 15, is employed as a domestic in the Thomas Burton household, next door.
It would seem possible that the census taker may have made an error as Ann Jane would have been 50 in 1891.
These children correspond in name & age to children of Ann Jane Robinson and Hugh Ritchie.
Anne Jane Robinson married Robert Lee on June 23, 1885, and he died July 16, 1889..

Finally, we also have a J. Ann Lee widow, aged 60 in the 1901 census listed as the head of a family consisting of B. Annie Tuffy, daughter born March 11, 1875 (same age as Annie Ritchie/Richie daughter of Ann Jane Robinson and Hugh Ritchie).....and son-in-law D.Wm. Tuffy born Oct 23, 1875 as well as her daughter Eliza Burton, aged 40 and now a widow herself.
